Lotus  and  Thistle   Body & Spirit

About Us

Ayurvedathe world’s oldest recorded healing system.  Ayurveda was discovered and then developed by Indian holy men, known as Rishis, almost 5,000 years ago, and its influence spread into the early cultures of Tibet, Egypt, Persia, China, Greece, Rome, and Indonesia.  As a low- cost healing system that emphasizes the use of local herbs and remedies, an adaptability to any climate, and a reduced dependence on pharmaceutical products, Ayurveda is a favorable choice in complementary medicine for today’s health-conscious society.

Ayurvedic theory states that health is the result of harmony with self.   The root cause of disease usually rests within the interrupted flow of our own harmony.  “Forgiveness of disease” is actually the meaning of the ancient Vedic word for immunity.  It is believed that the root of disease actually lies within negative thoughts and imbalanced lifestyles.  Harmony with self creates immunity.

Ayurvedic practitioners consider the three Doshas, the dynamic forces that create biological functions, when working with a client to achieve optimum health.  These Doshas, Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, are forces that are constantly changing in the body.  Food, climate, life stages, and lifestyle all affect the harmony of the Doshas and the body’s health.  By working toward balance in mind, body, and spirit, a path opens to greater health, well-being, and harmony.
